History

Developed in the late 1940’s, the Crestview / Brentwood area was originally a large dairy farm owned by Frank and Julia Richcreek, whose modest farmhouse still stands at 1405 Justin Lane. The neighborhoods were built mostly for returning WWII veterans and their young, growing families - one of whom, Bill Williamson, created the 8-foot-wide wooden star still found at the top of the Texas State Capitol rotunda.

When Crestview was first being built and there were hardly any trees, the hills to the west were still easily viewable, as was the purple glow that graced them around sunset, coined the “Violet Crown.” This endearing nickname that captured the beauty of the new neighborhood would become the namesake of some of the most historic local businesses and events, like the Violet Crown Clubhouse and Violet Crown Festival.
